POMO Lounge: A Sky Bar Inspired by Oriental Art

Unleashing the Ambiance of Oriental Culture

The POMO Lounge stands out from other sky bars with its innovative use of surfaces to create a sense of boundlessness. The mirror-like surface created by the water and the ground gives the space an ethereal quality, making guests feel as if they are floating in the air. The glass box design, floating on water, adds to the surreal atmosphere.

Inspired by the splash-ink technique used in Oriental landscape paintings, the POMO Lounge incorporates elements of the Orient into its design. The concept of "Landscape is making me speak of them" is beautifully translated into the ambiance of the lounge, creating a space that immerses guests in the rich culture of the East.

The floor of the lounge reflects the movement found in landscape paintings, creating a flowing space that adds to the overall aesthetic. The mirror-like surface formed by the water reflects the clouds, creating a picturesque image that enhances the visual appeal of the space.

Technically, the POMO Lounge is a glass box sky bar that stands 100 meters above the ground, offering breathtaking views of the city. The location of the lounge, in Taichung, Taiwan, was carefully chosen as it is a hub of transportation, politics, and commerce activities in central Taiwan.

The design team, led by King Wang and Paul Chiang, faced several challenges in bringing the POMO Lounge to life. The glass-box design, floating on an edgeless pool, required careful engineering to create the illusion of floating in the air and on the sea. The refraction of light from the water surface creates a watery pattern on the interior ceiling, adding to the magical atmosphere of the lounge.

The POMO Lounge was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2014 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated in the design. The POMO Lounge showcases a remarkable level of excellence, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder to its visitors.
